NCRQ and ELCAS partnership
NCRQ is an approved partner of the Ministry of Defence’s Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service (ELCAS). As a leading provider of health and safety qualifications in the UK, this is a great opportunity for current and former members of our armed forces to obtain one of the most popular health and safety qualifications available – the NCRQ Certificate and NCRQ Diploma.
The Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme promotes lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces, and provides financial support in the form of payments of up to 80% of the costs of NCRQ qualifications.
The actual amount available depends on your circumstances, and can vary from £1,000 per year up to £3,000 per year.
Which qualifications are eligible?
- NCRQ Level 6 Certificate in Applied Health and Safety (module HSD1)
- NCRQ Level 6 Certificate in Personal Injury Liability and Absence Reduction (module HSD2)
- NCRQ Level 6 Diploma in Applied Health and Safety (modules HSD1, HSD2, HSD3)
You can apply to study each unit individually (your contribution would be £180, ELCAS pay £720), or the full Diploma at once (you pay £504, ELCAS pay £2016) – depending on whether you receive lower or upper-tier Enhanced Learner Credits.
Why choose NCRQ?
NCRQ qualifications have been designed to give the skills and knowledge to be able to do health and safety, rather than regurgitate facts and laws. It also means that our qualifications are often more suited to those who learn best by applying knowledge – or those who find exams really daunting. The NCRQ Diploma is now the most popular Diploma-level health and safety qualification in the UK, and hugely valued by employers – because it proves that you can “do” health and safety – not just talk about it.
Our qualifications have been developed by the UK’s leading experts on health and safety, and importantly with some of the biggest employers in the UK – including the BBC, Royal Mail, and Siemens plc, meaning they are designed specifically for the workplace. We have found that this expertise gives students the confidence to make big and lasting changes to both their careers and their workplaces – ensuring the highest possible safety standards across the world.
The NCRQ Certificate and Diploma are self-directed study – you work progressively through workbooks, supported by extensive online activities to consolidate learning. You request your assessments whenever you feel ready, and then have two to four weeks to complete and upload them. We find this is helpful for those with busy lives – you can fit your learning into your own schedule, and take control of your progression yourself. At the end of each unit we ask you to complete a quick validation interview via Skype or FaceTime – just to check that you have completed the work yourself. It also is a great time to meet our lovely student support officers!
NCRQ offer dedicated tutor support (all former Inspectors of Health and Safety from HSE) available 9am-8pm Monday to Friday, and 12-2pm on weekends and a thriving student community on our Student Support Forum which you can access 24 hours a day.
We already have hundreds of current and former service personnel studying with us – and health and safety is a very popular career path for ex-services – so join us today and make the first step towards a new career!
How does this work?
Full details are available on the ELCAS website. You will need to complete the ELC claim form for the relevant NCRQ qualification, and get this approved by the MOD. When this is all signed off, you will receive a Claim Authorisation Note from ELCAS. You then simply forward this to our friendly student support team at email@example.com, and we will make arrangements for you to pay your 20% contribution. As soon as this is received, you are all good to go!
We will then request the remaining 80% of your funding directly from ELCAS.
Note that the NCRQ qualifications are listed by ELCAS as “AIM Awards” – as they are our Ofqual accredited awarding body.
