NCRQ and ELCAS partnership
NCRQ is an approved partner of the Ministry of Defence’s Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service (ELCAS). As the leading provider of health and safety qualifications in the UK, this is a great opportunity for current and former members of our armed forces to obtain the most popular and highly-regarded health and safety qualifications – the NCRQ Certificate and NCRQ Diploma.
The Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme promotes lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces, and provides financial support in the form of payments of up to 80% of the costs of NCRQ qualifications.
The actual amount available depends on your circumstances, and can vary from £1,000 per year up to £3,000 per year.
What qualifications are eligible?
- NCRQ Level 6 Certificate in Applied Health and Safety (module HSD1)
- NCRQ Level 6 Certificate in Personal Injury Liability and Absence Reduction (module HSD2)
- NCRQ Level 6 Diploma in Applied Health and Safety (modules HSD1, HSD2, HSD3)
You can apply to study each unit individually (your contribution would be £132, ELCAS pay £528), or the full Diploma at one (you pay £360, ELCAS pay £1440) – depending on whether you receive lower or upper tier Enhanced Learner Credits.
Why choose NCRQ over NEBOSH?
NCRQ qualifications have been designed to give the skills and knowledge to be able to do health and safety, rather than answer exam questions.
They have been developed by the UK’s leading experts on health and safety, and importantly with some of the biggest employers in the UK – including the BBC, Royal Mail, and Siemens plc.
The NCRQ Diploma is now the most popular Diploma-level health and safety qualification in the UK, and hugely valued by employers – because it proves that you can “do” health and safety – not just talk about it.
The NCRQ Certificate and Diploma are self-directed study – you work progressively through hard copy workbooks, backed up with extensive online activities.
But you are not alone – you have a dedicated tutor (who are all former Inspectors of Health and Safety from HSE) who is available 9am-8pm Monday to Friday, and 12-2pm on weekends. There is also a thriving student community on our Student Support Forum which you can access 24 hours a day.
There are no exams – you are assessed by completing assignments as you progress through your studies. You request these whenever you are ready, and then have two to four weeks to complete and upload them. And finally, there is a live Skype or Facetime validation interview at the end of each unit – just to check that you have completed the work yourself.
We already have hundreds of current and former service personnel studying with us – and health and safety is a very popular career path for ex-services – so join us today and make the first step towards a new career!
How does this work?
Full details are available on the ELCAS website. You will need to complete the ELC claim form for the relevant NCRQ qualification, and get this approved by the MOD. When this is all signed off, you will receive a Claim Authorisation Note from ELCAS. You then simply forward this to our friendly student support team at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will make arrangements for you to pay your 20% contribution. As soon as this is received, you are all good to go!
We will then request the remaining 80% of your funding directly from ELCAS.
Note that the NCRQ qualifications are listed by ELCAS as “AIM Awards” – as they are our Ofqual accredited awarding body.
