Laying the foundations: NCRQ student support

NCRQ qualifications are some of the most accessible in the sector –  we go out of our way so that you don’t have to. That’s why our qualifications are offered on a self-directed learning basis, using our ground-breaking “discovery-based learning” methodology. This also reduces the effort and cost of actually travelling to a classroom.

We understand this may be a new experience for some of you; many students are used to more old-fashioned learning styles, involving classrooms, written exams and textbook regurgitation. At NCRQ we want to allow you to demonstrate that you can actually use the skills you learn, rather than prove you can recite a 300-page textbook under pressure. This means your skills can be applied to real life, in a variety of jobs, across a huge range of industries.

You may feel slightly daunted by the prospect of self-directed study  – but please, do not fear! You will have our fantastic teams at your disposal to make sure that you feel supported from the very start of your NCRQ journey.

Tutor Support

Our team of highly-qualified tutors have decades of experience under their belts in a number of health and safety roles, across a diverse range of industries. Every tutor has at least ten years of experience as a regulator or director-level safety manager. As such, they’re always willing and able to answer your course-related questions that are bound to arise throughout your studies. 

Our tutors are contactable every day of the week. You can choose between email – where we aim to reply within a few hours – or telephone support – because sometimes it’s easier to speak to a real-life human, in real time. We offer a call back service so you can request a phone call at a time convenient for you during the tutor team’s hours. 

Tutors are available from 9am until 8pm Monday to Friday, and between 12pm and 2pm at weekends – to reflect the times that many of our students study.

You can contact your tutor an unlimited number of times and, as well as having more experience than most will acquire in their lifetime, are also really nice people – so feel free to pick their brains! It’s literally their job to make sure you are confident with the course content before you request your assignment. The assignments themselves are the only aspect of the course that your tutor is unable to discuss with you – so we recommend making sure you are fully ready to take on your assignment before requesting it.

The next step is completing your work and submitting it to be assessed. It can feel like a lifetime waiting for your results to come back, but our assessors aim to have them graded and returned within 14 days of submission. Whether you’ve passed or need to re-visit the assignment and make a few adjustments, we believe it’s only fair to let you know in some detail how you can make your assignment even better the next time around, or give a clear indication of where you may have gone slightly off-track.

Again, feel free to contact your tutor about any feedback you have received. They’re here to help and want to see you achieve your best possible grade. 

Student Support Team

For anything else, we have our excellent team of Student Support Officers who do everything in their power to make sure your NCRQ experience runs as smoothly as possible. They are available by phone or email between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday to Thursday, and from 9am until 4pm on Fridays (because we are also an awesome employer!). The team are specifically trained to give advice and support in all non-academic course-related matters and are more than happy to chat about what the course entails to make sure it’s right for you before you enrol. So, if you have any concerns or questions relating to course content or structure, our unique style of learning, our assessment strategy, payment queries or any technical questions, drop them a line and they’ll do everything they can to resolve any of your issues.

We completely understand that it can be frustrating when something’s keeping you from getting on with the course, especially if you’ve taken a day off work to really knuckle down – that’s why we aim to respond to all emails within one hour on working days, to help you get your head back in the books and on track to success without delay!
